Charles T. Angell created the Paul Angell Foundation in 2011 to honor his father's legacy. In our work, the imagination and sense of purpose they shared ripple forward.
Our Namesake
Born in Michigan in the last years of the nineteenth century, Paul M. Angell saw our country go from the horse drawn wagon to landing on the moon. He lived through two world wars, raised nine children, experienced the Great Depression, and witnessed the country evolve from the telegraph to the internet. Paul invented the ice cream cake roll and founded Newly Weds Foods, Inc. in 1932, which became a global ingredients leader in the decades after. The Foundation is intended to honor him and his commitment to the idea that individual citizens can spark lasting change.

Our Founder
Born in Chicago in 1941, Charles grew up in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood. He attended the Harvard School for Boys, played football, and worked weekends at the family business. He went on to attend Columbia University and pursued a stint in international banking before returning to Chicago—and Newly Weds Foods—in 1965. Under his leadership, the company grew to 36 factories worldwide and over 5,500 employees. With help from his sons, Jim and Mike, Charles founded the Paul Angell Foundation in 2011 to honor his father and carry forward his own love of Chicago, its people, and its vibrant culture.
