Our namesake, Paul Angell, believed deeply in the potential of individuals and communities to spark change together. That conviction shaped our founding truth: when we unite, we can build a future where people, communities, oceans, and the arts all flourish.

When our founder and Paul's son, Charles Angell, passed in 2022 and left much of his assets to the Foundation, we knew our capacity for partnership would expand rapidly. As those assets have flowed into the Foundation, we’ve taken steps to ensure our growth supports grantees in deepening their impact. We’ve expanded our team, refreshed our brand to better reflect our mission, and continued to explore strategies to strengthen our grantee partners’ organizational health.

Behind the scenes, our team spent much of this year redesigning our website. Now that our website is here, we’re excited to make it a place to uplift the stories of our grantee partners and lend our voice to the issues influencing our work today. As you explore our new website, you’ll notice the beginning of our next chapter: our strategic plan.

We engaged in a strategic planning process earlier this year, and our new strategy will soon be ready to share. You’ll see that some of our programs are progressing. Social Impact is refining how it helps people and places thrive, while Performing Arts is reshaping how it uplifts artists and arts organizations moving forward. Marine Conservation’s priorities will remain the same, with new language to describe how it strives to increase protection, advance policy, and foster a thriving conservation community. You’ll also soon see more information about the priorities shaping our Democracy work, including how we’re growing our team to support that effort.

We look forward to how our strategic plan will build cohesion across the Foundation and ensure our work with our partners continues to ignite possibilities for all. While the Foundation is evolving, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the power of partnership. Thank you to our grantees for all you do to spark change that lasts for generations.
